Hybrid-electric vehicles aclean way forward
The potential environmental benefits hybrid-electric technology can deliver are remarkable.
In-service trials with single deck hybrid-electric vehicles have been able to show dramatically
improved emissions, with reductions of up to 89% NOx, 83% CO and 38% CO2 compared
with a conventionally diesel powered bus (source: Millbrook test data).
However, the benefits are not just environmental. The electric driveline ensures quiet
acceleration, significantly reducing noise levels, whilst providing a smooth and comfortable
travel experience for passengers.
With increasing concerns throughout our society about pollution and its implications on
health and global warming, Wrightbus has taken the lead in the development of a range
of passenger transport vehicles which feature environmentally friendly, advanced
hybrid-electric drivelines.
Working in close technical partnership with acknowledged leaders in the field and building
on our extensive practical experience with the first hybrid-electric buses to enter farepaying
service in London - Wrightbus has developed a new generation of Hybrid Electric Vehicles
(HEVs) to complement its existing diesel powered product range.

The facts impressive and clear
This exciting new technology harnesses the energy generated by a compact and efficient
common-rail diesel engine and the regenerative braking in a pack of high performance
batteries. The accumulated power drives electric traction motors. The resultant fuel
economy is impressive, and the driveline components are proven through service
throughout the world.
The new generation of Wrightbus HEV will be progressively made available across the
existing model range. The first model to be introduced in 2007 will be the Double Deck
Wrightbus Gemini HEV, followed by the highly acclaimed StreetCar RTV commissioned
for US operations.
Based on the renowned Wrightbus design, the bodywork of all hybrid-electric vehicles is
manufactured from our patented aluminium structure, Aluminique™. The modular aluminium
construction system is immensely strong, lightweight and durable. The commonality with
conventional, fully diesel powered models also facilitates a smooth integration into fleets
which already operate a number of Wrightbus products.
Arange of bespoke hybrid underframes has been developed for Wrightbus by leading
European chassis manufacturers, optimised to ensure that the complete vehicle packaging
reflects the full potential of the hybrid driveline.
The range established and proven
The technology innovative and effective
All our hybrid-electric vehicles are fully supported by The Wright Group's after sales
division, Customcare. For large fleets, dedicated Customer Support Units can be set up
to stock unique hybrid parts, ensuring thereis an immediate supply in order to maximise
vehicle uptime.
Customcarealso provides bespoke hybrid vehicle manuals, technician training and covers
all aspects of warranty administration and repairs.
